Better understand your neurotype
with a neurodiversity-affirming psychological assessment
Understanding yourself can be a powerful and validating experience. Our neurodiversity-affirming assessments for Autism and ADHD are designed to provide a supportive, respectful, and thorough process. Whether you’re seeking a diagnosis for the first time, looking to revisit a past diagnosis, or need formal documentation for accommodations, we’re here to guide you through the process with clarity and care.
The Assessment Process
Here at Unmasked Psychology, we know that uncertainty can be stressful, so here’s exactly what to expect:
1. Booking & Initial Intake
You can self-refer for an assessment—there’s no need for a GP or specialist referral.
When you reach out, we will provide details about availability, fees, and what to expect.
A deposit is required to secure your booking.
Assessments are currently available for adults (18+) only.
2. Pre-Assessment Questionnaires
Before we meet, I’ll send you a set of online questionnaires to complete at your own pace.
These are carefully selected based on your needs and may explore areas such as social communication, executive functioning, sensory experiences, and emotional regulation.
If you prefer, a support person (such as a family member or partner) can also complete a questionnaire about their observations.
3. Diagnostic Interview
We’ll meet via telehealth for one or two assessment sessions (1.5–3 hours total, depending on your needs).
The sessions are relaxed, conversation-based, and follow a semi-structured format to ensure we explore key aspects of Autism and/or ADHD while allowing space for your personal experiences.
We use gold-standard tools such as the DIVA-5 (for ADHD) and the MIGDAS-2 (for Autism), alongside clinical discussion tailored to your unique presentation.
You’re welcome to have a support person with you for part or all of the session.
4. Additional Measures (If Needed)
Sometimes, additional questionnaires may be sent after the interview to gather further insights.
If needed, we may request school reports, work evaluations, or other supporting documents (only if you’re comfortable sharing them).
5. Report Preparation
Your comprehensive report will be prepared within four weeks of your final interview.
The report includes a detailed summary of your developmental history, experiences, assessment results, and recommendations tailored to your needs.
If a diagnosis is made, it will be outlined with affirming language that centers your strengths as well as challenges.
6. Feedback Session
Once your report is ready, we’ll schedule a telehealth feedback session (approx. 60 minutes).
Melanie will walk you through the findings, answer your questions, and discuss next steps.
We’ll talk about strategies, resources, and support services that align with your goals.
What Happens Next?
A diagnosis (if applicable) is just one step in understanding yourself. Melanie will provide recommendations for accommodations, psychoeducation, therapy, coaching, and community support. Our goal is for you to leave the process with clarity, self-compassion, and a roadmap for moving forward.
